Navigating Calgary’s bus network is getting a major digital upgrade, as Calgary Transit introduces new high-definition onboard display screens across its buses and community shuttles. The new 21-inch and 29-inch passenger screens display real-time route details, route numbers, requested stops, upcoming stop locations, estimated arrival times, and instant service announcements. The enhancement is designed to keep riders fully informed throughout their journey, especially during unexpected detours or schedule changes.
“Customers want accurate, consistent and timely information to help them make decisions during their trip,” said Dennis Uvbiama, Manager of Service Vehicles at Calgary Transit. “They also want to know about service changes or disruptions that may affect their journey. These new screens deliver useful information to customers where and when they need it.” Currently undergoing testing as part of a 100-vehicle pilot project, the screens are set for a full fleet-wide rollout across Calgary Transit’s 1,000-plus fixed-route buses and shuttles starting in October 2026, with complete installation anticipated by early 2027.
The visual upgrades are powered by a major modernization of Calgary Transit’s Computer-Aided Dispatch, Automatic Vehicle Location, and Advanced Passenger Information System. This integrated platform connects dispatching, emergency response, fleet operations, and safety directly with the Transit Control Centre to improve overall service reliability and cut wait times. Vehicle tracking accuracy has been significantly improved across all customer tools, including the Transit app, the calgarytransit.com online trip planner, and legacy Teleride and Teletext phone services. Bus operators also gain access to simplified employee login, turn-by-turn navigation, real-time construction detour updates, detailed incident reporting, and live emergency video feeds.
