Orange shirt ceremony set for The Confluence on September 30

The City of Calgary and partners will host an Orange Shirt Day ceremony at The Confluence on National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

The ceremony takes place on September 30 from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. It is free and open to everyone.

Orange Shirt Day honours children taken to residential schools. It remembers those who never returned home. It reflects on lasting impacts of the system.

September 30 is a time for remembrance and action. Learning and reconciliation remain year-round commitments.

“Orange Shirt Day is a time to come together in remembrance, reflection and learning,” says Lorelei Higgins. Higgins leads the City’s Indigenous Relations Office.

“By listening to stories and honouring survivors, we each play a role in advancing reconciliation,” she says.

The City invites all Calgarians to attend. Attendees are encouraged to wear orange. It shows commitment to remembering impacted children.

The event will support the ongoing journey of reconciliation. Can’t attend in person? You can watch live online.
