The City of Calgary will adjust services for the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation 2026 on Wednesday, Sept. 30.
The City has invited Calgarians to attend the Orange Shirt Day Ceremony. The ceremony will run from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at The Confluence Historic Site & Parkland, 750 9 Ave. S.E.
The program will honour residential school victims and survivors. It will feature keynote speakers, remarks from the Mayor and cultural performances. The event will end with a round dance.
Additionally, you can watch the ceremony live at Calgary orange shirt day.
To show solidarity, the City will light three landmarks in orange. The Reconciliation Bridge, Centre Street Bridge and Calgary Tower will glow orange. Flags will fly at half-mast.
Calgary Transit will also run on a modified Saturday level of service. On Demand will provide its regular weekday service. Check Calgary transit for details.
On-street ParkPlus zones will be free on Sept. 30. Meanwhile, standard weekend rates will apply in city parkades and surface lots.
City golf courses and driving ranges will stay open. Book your tee time at Calgary golf.
Active construction projects will cause several road closures, so commuters should check online traffic updates before travelling.
Landfills and Eco Centres will remain open. Visit Calgary landfill for hours and locations.
On the other hand, indoor pools, arenas, arts centres, and the Animal Services Centre will close. All drop-in and registered recreation programs will also be paused for the day.
