Calgary homicide detectives launched an investigation into a stabbing incident that turned deadly downtown.
Officers responded to reports of an assault with a weapon around 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 2.
The violent incident occurred along the 500 block of Seventh Avenue S.E.
Investigators believe two men who knew each other got into a physical fight. During the argument, one man pulled out a knife and stabbed the victim.
Paramedics arrived at the scene and transported the victim to hospital in life-threatening condition. The victim succumbed to his injuries soon after. However, the suspect fled the scene prior to police arrival and remains at large.
Since the incident detectives have been interviewing witnesses and have gathered security camera footage. Following the investigation, investigators have released photos of a man and a woman who may hold crucial information.
“This was a brazen act of violence that claimed a person’s life,” said Staff Sgt. Mark Rahn of the Calgary Police Service Homicide Unit. “We are working to determine exactly what happened and are asking anyone with information to come forward.”
Pathologists will perform an autopsy on Tuesday, Oct. 6, to confirm the exact cause of death.
Police ask anyone with tips to call headquarters at 403-266-1234 or contact Crime Stoppers anonymously.
