$26 million athletic park opens in northwest Calgary

The newly opened Rocky Ridge Athletic Park has given Calgarians more room to practice, play, train and compete. The park is a major new addition to Calgary’s public recreation system.
The $26-million athletic park features two multi-use, artificial turf fields, along with washrooms, parking, and spectator seating. Bright field lights extend playable hours and support increased use throughout the season.
Located next to Shane Homes YMCA at Rocky Ridge, the new City-operated park expands access to high-quality outdoor sport space for northwest Calgary and the wider community.
Mayor Jeromy Farkas highlighted the long-term community benefits of expanding local sports facilities.
“Rocky Ridge Athletic Park is an investment in Calgary’s growing northwest,” said Mayor Jeromy Farkas. “These new fields will give more kids, families, and sport organizations access to quality spaces.”
Sport leaders also praised the expansion for addressing high demand across youth leagues.
“Quality fields are essential to giving youth the opportunity to develop their skills,” said Bernie Morton, president of Calgary Minor Soccer Association. “These new fields will provide more opportunities for kids to practice and compete.”
The two new fields bring Calgary’s athletic park network to 15 athletic parks with 31 soccer fields across the city, adding much-needed capacity and helping respond to growing demand for bookable field space.
The additional capacity also gives The City greater flexibility to manage field use, support the recovery of natural grass fields and provide more playing opportunities.
