Boil water advisory hits 100 Calgary homes

Alberta Health Services ordered a Boil Water Advisory for about 100 homes in Eagle Ridge and Heritage Park. The order takes effect immediately.

City crews were repairing a water main on Friday, October 16. During the work, the pipe unexpectedly lost pressure. Crews cannot guarantee the water’s safety, so officials issued the warning as a precaution. This issue is separate from the Bearspaw South Feeder Main.

Traffic Disruptions

To complete the repairs, crews closed all southbound lanes on 14th Street S.W. between 75 Avenue S.W.and Heritage Drive S.W. The road will remain closed until further notice. Workers are putting in extended hours over the weekend to reopen a southbound lane as soon as possible.

Water Safety Instructions

Bring all tap water to a rolling boil for one full minute before using it for:
  • Drinking, coffee, and tea
  • Cooking and preparing infant formula
  • Brushing teeth
  • Washing raw foods
  • Making ice
Standard home water filters do not make the water safe. You must still boil filtered water before consuming it.

Alternative Water Sources

You can purchase bottled water or visit a local water wagon. Check calgary.ca/wateroutages to find water wagon locations.

Cleaning and Household Use

  • Dishes & Surfaces: Boil your water first if you wash dishes or clean surfaces by hand.
  • Bathing & Laundry: You do not need to boil water for bathing or doing laundry.
