Police launch search after woman randomly sexually assaulted at Southland LRT Station
The Calgary Police Service (CPS) Sexual Assault Investigative Unit is appealing to the public for information following a random sexual assault at the Southland CTrain Station overnight.
At approximately 1:00 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 25, 2026, emergency crews responded to the Southland LRT parking lot at 10158 Sacramento Dr. S.W. after witnesses spotted a vulnerable woman in distress. The victim was taken to the hospital in stable condition and is currently receiving support from the Calgary Sexual Assault Response Team (CSART) and Calgary Communities Against Sexual Abuse (CCASA).
Investigators believe the victim did not know her attacker.
The suspect is described as having dark brown hair and speaking with an accent. Witnesses reported seeing a mid-sized, black SUV with chrome trim around the windows fleeing the area shortly after the attack.
“The random nature of this assault is extremely concerning to us,” said Staff Sgt. Tom Hanson of the Sexual Assault Investigations Unit. “We are asking the public to remain vigilant until this suspect is found and to connect with us if they have any information.”
In response to the attack, CPS will be increasing high-visibility patrols around the Southland station and surrounding areas in the coming days.
