Calgary police are ramping up traffic safety measures across the city this November. Officials have released the list of target communities for speed radar enforcement. Drivers should watch their speed and stay alert in these key areas.
Focused Enforcement in Nine Calgary Neighborhoods
Throughout the month, mobile photo radar units will focus on nine specific Calgary communities. Officers will monitor traffic closely in Altadore, Auburn Bay, Cambrian Heights, Glamorgan, Glenbrook, Patterson, Silver Springs, Varsity, and Wildwood.
Officers will also set up photo radar units in active construction zones. Crews are working hard in these areas, so drivers must slow down to protect workers on foot.
Hefty Fines for Excessive Speed
Speeding fines increase as drivers push past the posted limits. If you travel more than 50 km/h over the speed limit, officers will issue a mandatory court summons. That means you must appear directly before a judge to face your charges.
Round-the-Clock Intersection Monitoring
Beyond mobile radar units, Calgary operates 57 static Intersection Safety Camera (ISC) sites across the city. These cameras work 24/7 to catch drivers running red lights. Five of these specific sites feature “speed-on-green” technology, which snapshots vehicles accelerating illegally through green lights.
City records show these camera systems actively lower dangerous collisions and build safer driving habits at high-traffic intersections.
Driving Toward Vision Zero
Police officers continue to partner closely with The City of Calgary under the Safer Mobility Plan. Both organizations share a single mission: Vision Zero. This initiative aims to completely eliminate traffic fatalities and severe injuries on local roads.
