He tried to escape in a taxi—then police found what was hidden in his stolen truck
A high-risk foot pursuit in downtown Calgary ended with the arrest of a wanted man and the seizure of loaded weapons, high-capacity magazines, and illegal suppressors.
The investigation began in early August when Calgary Police Service Auto Theft Team (ATT) detectives identified a stolen Toyota Tundra operating with fraudulent re-VIN identification. Investigators worked to trace the truck and track down the suspect, who was already wanted on eight outstanding criminal warrants.
On Friday, Aug. 21, 2026, officers spotted the Tundra in the Beltline community and attempted a traffic stop. The driver fled from police, but officers recovered the abandoned vehicle just several blocks away.
Minutes later, police observed the suspect attempting to hail a taxi near the scene. Patrol officers pulled the cab over, prompting the suspect to flee on foot. Following a brief chase, the Calgary Police Canine Unit assisted in taking the man into custody.
Upon his arrest, officers recovered a Mac-11 9mm semi-automatic pistol, a snub-nosed revolver, and a suppressor directly on his person. Subsequent searches of the abandoned Tundra uncovered a small quantity of cocaine and methamphetamine, 15 handgun receivers, five additional suppressors, 13 high-capacity magazines, and multiple forged identification cards.
The Firearms Investigative Team will conduct tests on the seized handguns, which police believe were originally purchased in Texas and illegally smuggled into Canada.
Jeremy SAUVE, 41, of Calgary, faces a total of 36 criminal charges including flight from police, resisting arrest, possession of stolen property over $5,000, two counts of possession of a controlled substance, and three counts of breaching a release order. His extensive firearms and weapons charges include 17 counts of breaching a firearms prohibition, five counts of unauthorized possession of a prohibited device or firearm, two counts of carrying a concealed firearm, two counts of possession of a loaded firearm, and two counts of possession of a firearm in a vehicle.
At the time of his arrest, SAUVE was also subject to eight outstanding warrants for charges including obstruction, failing to appear in court, and escaping lawful custody. He has been remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear in court on Monday, Sept. 14, 2026.
“We are seeing firearms show up far too often in stolen vehicles, and that creates a serious risk for our officers and the public,” said Sgt. Matt Hill of the CPS Auto Theft Team. “In this case, officers located two loaded handguns, suppressors and high-capacity magazines. Every one of these weapons taken off the street is one less opportunity for violence to impact victims, families and communities across our city.”
Police state the investigation remains active and additional charges are pending.
