Two charged in $1m university and immigration fraud

Calgary police have charged two people in connection with a series of frauds involving investment opportunities, university admission, immigration services and loans.

It is believed that between February 2021 and June 2023, the suspects scammed about $1 million from multiple victims through several fraudulent schemes.

According to investigators, the suspects persuaded unsuspecting victims to hand over large sums of cash.
The suspects made promises about high-return investments, help with securing admission to top universities, and Canadian immigration approvals.

Furthermore, the duo offered fake assistance with personal financial loans to gain trust.

Consequently, police laid multiple criminal charges against both individuals involved.

Officers charged 55-year-old Yung-Ho Shang, also known as Adam Shang, with six counts of fraud over $5,000.
Additionally, police charged 51-year-old Yun Hua, who goes by Coco Hua, with two counts of fraud over $5,000.

Both suspects will appear in court on Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2026, to answer the charges.

Meanwhile, detectives ask anyone with additional information to contact police at 403-266-1234 or Crime Stoppers immediately.
