Five charged for selling drugs to vulnerable people downtown

Targeted Enforcement in the City Core

Calgary police officers arrested five individuals who face thirty combined criminal charges following an undercover investigation into vulnerable populations exploitation downtown.

Specialized officers launched focused enforcement patrols through high-density gathering zones during a two-week operation in October 2026. This tactical deployment was part of the ongoing Safer Calgary – Operation Restore initiative.

The specialized initiative focuses on reducing crime, curbing open drug trafficking, and restoring public safety along transit corridors and urban gathering spaces.

Undercover Surveillance and Arrests

Undercover officers monitored numerous street-level transactions where suspects appeared to distribute drugs at homeless popular spots.

Consequently, surveillance teams observed suspects selling crack cocaine and crystal methamphetamine directly to marginalized community members. Officers moved in quickly to execute arrests, taking five suspects into custody without incident.

In addition to laying thirty fresh criminal charges, responding officers executed fifteen outstanding arrest warrants during the targeted sweep.

Weapons and Drugs Seized

Police searched the arrested individuals and confiscated weapons, drugs, and trafficking items from the scene.

Officers seized bear spray, an expandable baton, multiple cell phones, cash, a digital scale, crack cocaine, and methamphetamine. Additionally, investigators recovered contraband tobacco, stolen property, and fraudulent identity documents carried by the suspects.

Suspects Facing Multiple Charges

Police formally charged five Calgary residents in connection with the downtown drug operation.

Officers charged a 55-year-old man, a 26-year-old male, and a 47-year-old male with multiple counts of drug possession for the purpose of trafficking.

Meanwhile, police charged a 20-year-old man and a 26-year-old man with weapons offences, probation breaches, and drug distribution.

Court dates for the five accused individuals span from late October through late November 2026.

Sustained Public Safety Initiatives

Police will continue deploying targeted patrols and outreach strategies through priority downtown sectors under the Safer Calgary umbrella.

Authorities encourage anyone with details regarding local drug trafficking to contact police dispatch or submit anonymous tips to Crime Stoppers.
