Calgary residents have an opportunity to clear out household clutter or discover unique second-hand items this weekend as Calgary brings back its popular municipal recycling initiative.
Scheduled for September 12 and 13, 2026, the Curbside Treasure Hunt is asking Calgarians to place gently used or unwanted items on their curbs for passersby to pick up free of cost. The event serves as a community-wide giveaway initiative aimed at reducing waste.
Waste Diversion Specialist Natalia Gonzalez stated that “Over the past few years, this has become one of our most beloved events, and by taking part, residents can make a big impact in helping reduce waste. We invite all members of the public to take part, whether decluttering their home or searching for that next great find.”
For the 2026 edition, municipal organizers have introduced an interactive digital tracking map. Community members planning to contribute items can log their location and view listings through an online submission form, which will allow participants to explore different items in various neighbourhoods with convenience.
Residents are instructed to clearly mark all donated items with a “Free” tag before placing them on the curbside. To maintain clean neighborhoods and prevent public obstruction, all items that have not been picked up must be removed from curbsides by 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 13. The city has urged the public to use municipal disposal guides for any leftover items that require standard recycling, donation, or waste handling.
