Police laid criminal charges against two men following an investigation. Officers confirmed the arrests stem from a Calgary hate motivated assault charges case.
Emergency crews responded to a call outside a Macleod Trail restaurant on July 2, 2026. Two men tipped over an occupied portable washroom. The door crashed face-down onto the pavement, trapping a woman inside before the men fled the scene.
Witnesses helped the woman out of the washroom, called 911, and provided first aid. EMS transported her to the hospital for treatment after exposure to chemicals and waste. She has since recovered.
Investigators reviewed security footage and interviewed witnesses. Officers determined the suspects targeted the victim based on her gender and ethnicity.
Police arrested 24-year-old Tyson David Cann and 24-year-old Fynn Storm Ferrier, and charged both men with assault causing bodily harm.
“This was a degrading attack that left a victim trapped and injured,” said Sergeant Chelsea Francois. “Hate-motivated crimes harm our whole community. There is simply no place for hate in Calgary.”
Both men will appear in court later this fall.
