Officer Shot, Suspect Dead Near Edworthy Park

The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) is investigating an officer-involved shooting that left one police officer wounded and a suspect dead in southwest Calgary on Monday, Aug. 10, 2026.
At approximately 11:45 a.m., Calgary Police Service members initiated a traffic stop in the Spruce Cliff community near Edworthy Park when an occupant inside the vehicle opened fire, striking an officer.
The shooter then fled the vehicle on foot into Edworthy Park toward the Bow River, actively firing at pursuing officers and nearby civilians. During his flight, the suspect carjacked a vehicle and drove through the park until the vehicle became stuck. He then exited the disabled car and continued fleeing on foot.
Police helicopter HAWCS tracked the suspect from the air, relaying his position to guide officers on the ground. However, before ground units reached him, the suspect was located deceased in the river. The Calgary Fire Department is assisting with the recovery of his body.
The injured officer was transported to the hospital and is currently in stable condition.
Officers remain on scene searching Edworthy Park for additional evidence in what authorities described as a dynamic and unfolding incident. Police are asking any witnesses to speak with officers on scene or call the non-emergency line. As required with any officer-involved shooting, ASIRT has taken over the investigation.
