Massive downtown sweep nets 91 warrants!

Downtown blitz: Calgary police and Alberta sheriffs clear 91 warrants in two-day operation

A joint law enforcement operation in downtown Calgary has resulted in 18 arrests and the execution of 91 outstanding warrants, alongside the collection of over $3,000 in unpaid fines.
On August 5 and 6, 2026, the Calgary Police Service partnered with the Alberta Sheriffs’ Fugitive Apprehension Sheriffs Support Team (FASST) to track down individuals with active warrants across the city’s downtown core and surrounding neighborhoods.
The coordinated sweep targeted both criminal and non-criminal matters, clearing 77 criminal warrants—25 of which were tied to violent offenses—and 14 non-criminal warrants. Charges linked to the cleared warrants included assault on a peace officer, assault with a weapon, possession of a dangerous weapon, hazardous storage of a firearm, resisting arrest, breach of probation, and failure to comply with release conditions or court appearances.
“This operation demonstrates the value of proactive enforcement and strong partnerships,” said Calgary Police Service Sergeant Chelsea Karpenko. “This work does not stop here. Investigators from the CPS and Alberta Sheriffs continue to actively pursue additional wanted individuals using intelligence gathered throughout this operation. Holding offenders accountable and ensuring they answer to outstanding warrants remains an important part of maintaining safe communities.”
Alberta Sheriffs FASST Inspector Darren Thompson added that pooling intelligence and resources with local police allows enforcement teams to more effectively locate wanted individuals and improve public safety.
The joint effort aligns with the city’s broader Safer Calgary initiative, a collaborative strategy involving local law enforcement, Calgary Transit Public Safety, Calgary Community Standards, and provincial agencies aimed at addressing high-priority areas through targeted enforcement and community outreach. Officials confirmed that investigators are utilizing data gathered during the two-day blitz to pursue further outstanding warrants across the region.
