Calgary police are searching for a fake police officer in Calgary after a woman reported a suspicious traffic stop. Authorities issued an urgent warning to drivers following the unsettling northeast incident.
The incident occurred on Monday, Oct. 5, 2026, around 3:00 p.m.
A woman was driving westbound on 16 Avenue N.E. from Chestermere.
She noticed a black Toyota van following closely behind her vehicle.
The van featured an aftermarket siren that sounded unusual compared to standard police sirens.
Near 68 Street N.E., the suspect activated the siren and signaled the driver to stop.
Both vehicles stopped at a red light.
A woman exited the van, walked to the driver’s window, and demanded a driver’s license.
The victim noticed the suspect lacked any official police insignia or uniform.
When the driver requested police identification, the suspect turned around and drove away.
Investigators describe the suspect as an Indigenous woman with medium-length black hair wearing jeans.

Officers will identify themselves and will never demand money during a traffic stop.
