Calgary police are investigating a fatal single-vehicle crash after a 39-year-old motorcyclist lost control of his vehicle while traveling at a high speed on Wednesday evening.
The collision occurred at approximately 7:50 p.m. on Aug. 26, 2026, as the rider was traveling eastbound on McKnight Boulevard approaching Metis Trail N.E. Investigators believe the driver lost control of the motorcycle and was thrown into the median between the Metis Trail off-ramp and McKnight Boulevard N.E.
Emergency responders transported the man to the hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Investigators have ruled out alcohol or drug impairment as a factor. However, evidence recovered from the scene of the crash indicates the motorcycle was traveling at speeds of more than 200 km/h and as a result the driver lost control.
The incident marks Calgary’s 23rd traffic fatality of the year. In light of the crash, the Calgary Police Service have issued a stark warning to motorists that excessive speed reduces reaction time and braking distance, thereby increasing both the risk and severity of collisions.
