Late-night blitz: Police pull over 61 for impaired checks!

Local officers completed a targeted Calgary impaired driving check stop operation along a major southwest corridor late Saturday night.

Members of the Traffic Unit set up the enforcement checkpoint at 33 Avenue and Crowchild Trail S.W. The operation ran from 11 p.m. until 1:30 a.m.

During the sweep, officers performed mandatory breath test screenings on 61 motorists.

Three drivers failed the breathalyzer test entirely and lost their driving privileges. Another three motorists received official warnings from officers on site.

Additionally, tests detected small amounts of alcohol in 10 drivers. Meanwhile, 45 tested motorists showed no alcohol in their system at all.

Police remind all Calgarians that impaired driving endangers everyone sharing the road.

“Plan a safe ride home before you head out,” police urged in a public statement.

Drivers should arrange designated drivers, book taxis, or request rideshares to help keep roads safe. The initiative supports the city’s Vision Zero goal to eliminate traffic fatalities.
